SUNY Cobleskill Maintenance Facility
Challenge
The campus maintenance facility, the Mackey Maintenance Complex, had never been renovated since its construction in 1967. Both functionally and aesthetically, it felt like a step backwards in time, and posed a threefold challenge: addressing the building envelope, its aging mechanical systems and its functional layout.
Results
In collaboration with the campus, our design team set out to reconstruct, rather than demolish, the existing structure, placing new emphasis on sustainability and campus-pride-building aesthetics.
The final LEED Silver and ASHRAE-certified renovation featured a new, centralized entrance and more functional office layout with pops of “Cobleskill orange;” a retrofit of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; and green features such as electric vehicle chargers and salvaged roof planks.
